News - Archaeologists are on the trail of their share of our £35,000 (Farndon)

AN archaeological society is hoping to use its share of £35,000 to help develop a heritage trail.

Farndon Archaeological Research and Investigation Society is one of 300 groups bidding for a share of the money in the Post's Cash For Your Community campaign.

Coupons have already started appearing in the paper and will be printed every day until Friday, June 17.

Rae Elliott, who has been a member of the society for more than 10 years, said the group is keen to show off the architecture of the village with a heritage trail.

She said: "A lot of people come from all over the area to visit Farndon and a trail showing all the interesting buildings would be great for tourism.

"Our group does a lot of historical research and we try to explore the village's past – a lot of people don't really appreciate what we have in Farndon.

"We have done a lot of excavations in the past all over the East Midlands and they are always exciting."

The society has around 30 members with ages ranging from 20-year-olds to people in their 70s.

Members from the group have previously appeared on television shows Time Team and Two Men in a Trench, as part of excavations in Normanton and Newark.

They have also been involved in investigations into Ice Age tools found in Farndon during preparation work for the A46 dualling.

Mrs Elliott said that most of the members see archaeology and historical investigation as a hobby, but some members were studying for qualifications in the subject.

She added: "We have been asking friends and family to pick up copies of the paper to cut out tokens for us – every pound we get will help us."

She said the group needed help buying equipment for the trail and they would also like to have more visits from guest speakers.

To collect coupons for the Farndon Archaeological Research and Investigation Society, just cut out the tokens which are printed in the Post.

All coupons submitted must be accompanied by a coupon collection form, which is available at www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/cashforyourcommunity.

All coupons must be received by Wednesday, June 22.
