Retired miners will share their memories of life on the coal face at an event at Dukeries College tomorrow.
It is part of a series organised by the Nottinghamshire National Union of Mineworkers Ex- and Retired Miners Association to ensure the area’s mining heritage is not forgotten.
The association is particularly keen for retired miners and their families who are willing to share their memories on tape or film to attend the event.
College students will today meet the miners and look at artefacts, equipment and machinery.
College principal Mr Danny Smith said: “Mining is part of the heritage of this area and we feel it is immensely important that our students understand and know about the history attached to it.”
The Mining Memories project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is on all day at Dukeries Library.
