Event - Unearthing the cemetery’s secrets (Doncaster)

HISTORY buffs are invited to take a walk around a Doncaster cemetery – and find out more about the lives of the town’s former inhabitants.

A heritage walk has been launched at Hyde Park Cemetery, with the aim of making the Victorian burial site a visitor attraction.

The Friends of Hyde Park Cemetery invited MP Rosie Winterton to launch the Heritage Circuit at Doncaster’s oldest municipal cemetery.

The Heritage Circuit is marked by a series of numbered posts positioned at intervals around the perimeter path and features 20 points of interest with an accompanying colour leaflet.

Ms Winterton said: “I want to congratulate the Friends of Hyde Park Cemetery on their hard work.

“I am delighted to have been invited to launch the Heritage Circuit.

“This is an excellent way for visitors to explore the rich cultural heritage of Doncaster and Hyde Park Cemetery and enjoy a pleasant walk in the centre of the town.”

The Friends of Hyde Park Cemetery were supported by Doncaster Council and a number of other groups to create a safe and enjoyable walk around the graveyard.
