A BID is being launched to open a
northern outpost of the Science Museum on South Yorkshire’s Advanced
Manufacturing Park.
The initiative was revealed during a
meeting of the House of Commons Select Committee on Business Industry and
Skills to the region.
Former Sheffield Central MP and Advanced
Manufacturing Research Centre adviser Richard Caborn says the hope is that
bringing the Science Museum to the region would help to enthuse young people
about science and engineering.
“The proposition is to develop an
engineering and science experience centre and give pupils access at least once
or twice a year so that they can have hands-on experience of the what the world
of science and engineering is about,” said Mr Caborn
“We are looking at the whole of
the ‘supply chain’ from infants and juniors right through as well
as getting some teachers in.”
