LAND where a stone circle may once have stood will be the subject of a
preliminary archaeological study by a Sheffield community group this Sunday.
Members of the Wadsley and Loxley
Commoners will carry out a survey on the common – and helpers can join
in.
“It’s a great opportunity to
spend some time with other people who like the Common, learn more about the
history of the area and find out how to do an archaeological survey. Anyone who
is interested can just turn up,” a spokesman said. “Families are
welcome and the event will take three to four hours, so they should bring a
picnic. Other items of use will be kneeling pads, coloured pencils and paper,
and 30-metre tape measures.”
The Commoners meet at 11am at the Trig
Point just down from Long Lane car park in Loxley, where the event will be
signposted.
