CAMPAIGNERS hoping to preserve historic
Portland Works in Sheffield as little mesters’ workshops are holding open
days at the building.
The events are taking place at the
listed complex on Randall Street, which is still occupied by craftsmen, from
11am on Sunday and also in two months’ time on Sunday, May 6.
People can have a guided tour, meet some
of the tenants and find out what they do.
Guided tours start every 20 minutes from
11am until 2.30pm and places must be booked in advance by calling 0114 2768484.
The open day is free to the public, but
the organisers are hoping for donations towards the Portland Works Campaign to
raise £400,000 so it can buy the building and protect it from redevelopment as
flats.
The group is also selling shares to fund
the purchase.
