THE roof will be raised at one of
Rotherham’s most historic buildings next week.
At 12.45pm on Monday, a formal
topping-out ceremony is being held at Boston Castle – an 18th century
former hunting lodge that is being restored to its former glory at a cost of
£1.2 million.
Mayor of Rotherham, Coun Shaun Wright,
will conduct the ceremony on the roof of the eight metre high castle that
stands within Boston Park.
While there the Mayor will place a
sealed time capsule into the re-instated battlements.
The capsule will contain artifacts and
information about the Grade II listed building.
Renovations began there last August.
Work has already seen the removal of the
Victorian extension and the building of a new entrance, a platform lift,
stairs, toilets, storage and plant rooms.
