SOUTH Yorkshire’s
archives service is having to tighten its belt after a report forecast
overspending of £53,000 in the current financial year.
The service, which runs
facilities including the newly revamped archives on Shoreham Street, Sheffield,
has faced ‘higher than anticipated costs’ according to a report.
Managers plan to make
savings through underspending on staff costs and premises costs, plus
generating increased income from its records service.
As well as the forecast
overspend, the archives service is also having to cover a remaining £68,000
needed to cover the cost of returning archives material from commercial storage
during the refurbishment of Shoreham Street.
The cash is also set to
be generated from the records management service, according to managers.
