POSTCARDS depicting Sheffield from a bygone age are going under the hammer.
The collection worth thousands of pounds features scenes from Sheffield’s history as well as much-loved city locations.
The images include a crashed German Messerschmitt plane being displayed in Barker’s Pool where more thanr 40,000 people paid to view it.
The postcards mark Royal visits, pageants and parades, and bring to life dramatic events in the city’s history including floods and trees struck by lightning.
There are also group photographs of police officers, firemen and soldiers.
Locations featured include Endcliffe Park, Whiteley Woods, the Forum cinema and Picture Palace, Old Hollis and Jessops hospitals, Wharncliffe War hospital, St. Vincent’s home, Hunters Bar boy’s school, the city centre, Botanical Gardens, Wyming Brook and Rivelin Valley.
The auction is at Sheffield Auction Gallery, Windsor Road, Heeley, on Friday August 12, from 11am.
A spokeswoman said: “It’s a fantastic, extensive collection dating back to the early 20th century being sold by a client from Ecclesall. It is expected to make in the region of £3,000 to £5,000.”
