News - Historic forest walk is retraced (Sherwood Forest)

A NOTTS writer is preparing to set off on an historic walk through Sherwood Forest.

Dave Wood, of Stapleford, will begin his perambulation – or walking inspection – of the ancient woodland on July 30.

He will set off from the Victoria Embankment, which was once part of the forest, at noon. A gathering will be held to mark the start of the walk at the nearby Hook Nature Reserve from 10am.

The last major perambulation of Sherwood Forest was carried out in 1662 by a team of explorers intent on mapping the landscape.

Mr Wood intends to replicate the original journey, noting how the landscape has changed.
