News - Warmsworth helps with Tower restoration

Stone produced by Warmsworth Stone, a family business based in South Yorkshire, has helped preserve part of the Tower of London.

Hampole Fine Limestone extracted and cut by Warmsworth has been used during a four-year programme to conserve the Devereux Tower.

Using stone from a quarry at Hampole, Doncaster, Warmsworth then cuts it at its saw yard to be supplied to other companies or transferred to its manufacturing base at Thurnscoe, near Barnsley.

Warmsworth director Sally Frith said: "The creamy colour of our limestone was found to be a good match for dressings and mouldings at the tower, which has been the case with other historic architecture in London. It’s a real privilege to have been involved in the Tower of London project given its profile and important place in history."

Warmsworth has previously received advice from the Enterprising Barnsley programme, which offers support to Barnsley businesses with growth potential.
