News - History website going live (Hyson Green, Nottingham)

A WEBSITE about the urban history of Hyson Green has gone live today.

It is part of a project uncovering the history of the area's infamous flats which were demolished in 1988.

The website has a gallery of photos of the Hyson Green flats, sections on famous events at the flats – such as the 1981 riots and blues parties – and a place for visitors to leave their comments and memories.

The Hyson Green history project has been set up by the Partnership Council and funded by a Heritage Lottery grant.

It is training volunteers as community historians to interview ex-residents of the flats for their memories.
So far the project has found 20 volunteers.

Many of them are former residents of the Hyson Green flats.

Their interviews, and the memories they uncover, will be put on the website – www. hysongreenhistory.org.

An exhibition and booklet about their findings are planned for later this year.
