Event - Town talk on history (Mexborough)

A TALK will be given on the historic landmarks in Mexborough next week.


Principal Planner for Doncaster Council, Peter Lamb, is to give an illustrated presentation on ‘Mexborough Conservation Area’ and the buildings contained within it.

It will take place at the Mexborough and District Heritage Society meeting at the George and Dragon pub, Church Street, on Tuesday, May 22, from 7.15pm.

The society’s Annual General Meeting will follow the talk.

Event - WWII bombing threat is subject of talk (Mexborough)

A TALK will be given on the defence of Sheffield during WWII at the next Mexborough and District Heritage Society meeting.
Historian Cory Garner will give the presentation at the George and Dragon pub in Mexborough on Tuesday, February 28, at 7.15pm.
He will explain how General Sir Fredrick Pile, Commander-in-Chief of Anti-Aircraft Command, organised defences from the north of Doncaster to the south of Chesterfield in order to protect Sheffield’s industrial factories.
Mr Garner will also show a short film depicting the defence of the city.

Event - War heroes to be discussed at meeting (Mexborough)

MEXBOROUGH’S fallen war heroes will be remembered at the town’s next heritage meeting this month.

A talk will be given about the War Memorial in Sheffield which carries the names of former workers at Mexborough Loco Plant who lost their lives during World War I.

The meeting will be held at the George and Dragon pub on Tuesday, October 25, from 7.15pm
