Museums Sheffield have now launched 'Objects in 3D' which is currently displaying over 200 objects from Sheffield’s unique metalwork collection.
Using a 3D scanner with the help of Sheffield Hallam University , 3D images of objects ranging from Sheffield-made pewter to Sumatran ceremonial brass have now been digitised and put on their website.
This gallery also includes objects which aren’t normally displayed, or are too delicate for handling. This pioneering project celebrates Sheffield’s unique place in the world history of metal-making.
The project was funded under the JISC Rapid Digitisation programme and the link to the site is http://www.museums-sheffield.org.uk/collections/objects-in-3d/
