EXPLORE one of Sheffield’s most historic sites with a tour of the General Cemetery this weekend.
The free event is on Sunday, between 2pm and 3pm, departing from the Gatehouse at the end of Cemetery Avenue, off Ecclesall Road.
A spokesman for the organisers said: “This tour will introduce you to the history of the cemetery, its monuments, landscape and some of its most interesting occupants.
“As well as being the principal burial ground in Victorian Sheffield, the cemetery contains nine listed buildings and in 1999 it was added to the national Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, one of only six in the South Yorkshire region.
“It is also the burial ground of well-known Sheffield figures.”
