Tonights PHS talk sees the University of Nottingham's John Beckett giving a talk over the 19th century near revolution which started in Nottinghamshire during 1811.

the talk is in Oldcotes Village Hall and starts at 19.30. Tickets are £3 for non-members and £2 for members and includes a drink of either tea or coffee and a biscuit.

Talk - The Beasts of Bolsover & Creswell Crags (Oldcotes)

Two prehistoric Dragonfly fossils, with wingspans over 50 centimetres, were found in the 'Deep Hard' coal seam in Bolsover Colliery in 1978 by Malcolm Spenser. These rare exhibits will be coming back  to Creswell on display beginning this spring www.creswell-crags.org.uk/Whats-On/special-exhibitions.aspx.  Usually in the Natural History Museum London, these Erasipteron Bolsoveri/Whalleyala bolsoveri fossils are rarely seen outside the capital. 

Come and find out more about these Carboniferous Period finds and Creswell Crags itself in this fascinating talk by Helen who works at the Museum and visitor Centre on April 23rd starting at 19.30.

Event - Two Queens and a Countess (Oldcotes)

This is not the life story of the three ladies but an in depth talk on the interaction between the three most colourful and charismatic women in Elizabethan history: Elizabeth I, Mary, Queen of Scots; and Bess of Hardwick. A unique insight into a predominantly mans world, entered into and conquered by these 3 most powerful women by David Templeman from Sheffield Manor Lodge.

The talk starts at 7.30pm on Monday 12th March 2012 at Oldcotes Village Hall on Maltby Road (A634). Entrance is £3 for non-members or £2 for members and includes free tea/coffee and biscuits. Membership for the society is only £5 per year.

Book - Living In Hope by Sue Allan

Last nights talk on Sues new book 'Living in Hope' was a great chance to find out how to research family history when details are scarce and spread over several countries.

The book itself charts the truelife stories of three generations of the Weatherup family from Ontario - Sue's own ‘lost’ Anglo-Canadian family.

The Priories Historical Society are proud to announce that we have a new Chairperson; Maureen Broadhead, previously the Vice-Chairperson, will be taking over the reins with immediate effect.

Alan Gisbourne has now become the Vice Chairperson.

Raymoth Lane Talk/Sheffield Heritage Day

Todays talk at Worksop library by Bassetlaw Museum's Sam Glasswell went really well, I was unable to attend due to work but about 30 people attended.

Don't forget the next meeting is on 15th November and is about the Great Sheffield Flood of 1864.

Also Sheffield Heritage Day is on the 20th November at the Showroom.  Hope to see you there :)
